6 of the best new London hotels for 2023

We’re excited to see our hometown of London continuing to up its game, with some exciting new luxury and lifestyle hotels launching in 2023. Here’s our pick of six of the best…

Art’otel London Battersea Power Station

The stylish art’otel London Battersea Power Station, located in one of London’s hottest new neighbourhoods by the iconic Grade II* listed Battersea Power Station, will officially open at the end of February after announcing its soft launch in December.

The design-led brand’s first UK opening is located within Battersea Roof Gardens, a new building designed by Foster + Partners, that forms a key part of the new Electric Boulevard.

The 164-room hotel will offer six meeting and event spaces across two floors, accommodating up to 250 guests, a rooftop bar with heated infinity pool and jaw-dropping views of the Power Station and beyond from the 16th floor, and several exciting new dining options.

TOZI Grand Cafe will serve up menus of Venetian cicchetti, antipasti afternoon teas and delicious brunches from December, with skyline restaurant JOIA by Michelin starred chef Henrique Sá Pessoa showcasing his vibrant, unique, and fresh take on traditional plates using the best of British and Iberian produce.

Raffles London at The OWO

Despite featuring in our new London hotels hotlist for 2022, the Raffles London at The OWO was due to open late last year but is now expected to make its much anticipated opening this year. So, we couldn’t leave London’s first Raffles off our 2023 list, especially with new details released about the property’s F&B concepts.

Cafe Laperouse is the latest restaurant to join the enviable line-up of dining options, which will comprise nine restaurants and three bars when it opens to the public this summer, including Milanese restaurant Paper Moon as well as signature restaurants by Michelin starred chef Mauro Colagreco.

Owned by Moma Group, the inaugural Cafe Laperouse opened its doors in 2021 in the centre of Paris at Hotel de la Marine, the historic national monument on Place de la Concorde. At The OWO, Cafee Laperouse will be situated in the building’s central courtyard, housed within a modern indoor pavilion with room for 80 diners. Inspired by the travels of French explorer Jean-Francois de La Perouse, the space has been designed by art director Cordelia de Castellane, known for her work with Maison Dior.

Located at one of London’s most historically significant addresses in the former Old War Office on Whitehall, the historic building has undergone a "monumental" transformation and will offer 120 rooms and suites, 85 branded residences, an extensive wellness space when it opens.

The Peninsular London

Also delayed to 2023, the luxurious Peninsula brand is expected to make its long-awaited UK debut, in a prime spot overlooking Hyde Park Corner and the Wellington Arch, though the exact opening date has yet to be confirmed.

New details released include the news that the signature restaurant will be led by award-winning chef Claude Bosi. The rooftop Brooklands restaurant will offer contemporary European cuisine with “seasonal and sustainably sourced produce” amid interiors inspired by British aviation and motorsport, including an overhead scale model of the iconic Concorde.

Located on the ground floor, Chinese restaurant Canton Blue, created by Hong Kong-based interior designer Henry Leung of CAP Atelier is inspired by the Keying, a three-masted, 800-ton trading ship which sailed between China and Britain between 1846 and 1848. Meanwhile, the triple-height Lobby will be home to the brand’s signature afternoon tea, with a piano on the mezzanine providing live music.

The hotel will also offer 190 rooms and suites, a spa and wellness centre and several event venues including the pillarless St George Ballroom, which can accommodate up to 450 banquet guests and includes two elevators large enough for motorcars, as well as a private cinema for film screenings for up to 15 guests.

The Emory

We’re super excited by the news that Maybourne Hotel Group, the company behind Claridge’s, The Connaught and The Berkeley is to open its first new London property in 50 years.

Located on Knightsbridge, The Emory will offer 60 suites set over nine floors and is expected to open in winter 2023. Designed by the late Richard Rogers and Ivan Harbour of architectural firm RSHP, it will feature contemporary design and discreet luxury including a private, understated entrance on Old Barrack Yard and a striking ‘sails’ structure soaring above the treetops of Hyde Park.

Each floor will showcase the aesthetic of a different interior designer including Alexandra Champalimaud, André Fu, Pierre Yves Rochon, Rémi Tessier and Patricia Urquiola.

For the hotel’s culinary offering, world famous chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten will introduce his highly acclaimed ABC concept of fresh, local and conscious cuisine to London for the first time from his Manhattan outpost, while the hotel’s rooftop will offer a private, sweeping space dedicated to hotel guests only.

The St Regis London

Marriott International is opening its first St. Regis-branded hotel in the UK, which will be set in the former Westbury Mayfair Hotel on the corner of Bond Street and Conduit Street.

The property will undergo a £90 million redevelopment, which will include the addition of an eighth floor. The hotel, which is expected to open with 196 rooms and suites, will be designed by Peter Newman-Earp of Morrison Design with interiors by Richmond International. An extension to the rear will create enhanced public areas, along with renovations to the façade of the building and the drop-off area outside of the main entrance. Design plans include a signature restaurant, speakeasy jazz bar, fitness centre and spa.

The St. Regis London will honour the building’s history by retaining the iconic Polo Bar, originally designed for the Phipps family of America, avid polo players and creators of the Westbury Hotel in New York and London, and where guests will be able to enjoy a local twist on the Bloody Mary, St. Regis’ signature cocktail.

Mandarin Oriental Mayfair

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is expected to open its second hotel in London’s Mayfair this year. Located on Hanover Square, the property will offer 50 rooms and suites designed by UK-based Studio Indigo, and there will also be 78 private residences.

Interior design will be led by Tokyo-based studio Curiosity, with a decor based on a concept of ‘a hub of nature and art’. Artworks by local British artists will feature throughout the public spaces, while one-off furniture pieces have been curated by Curiosity’s founder, Gwenael Nicolas.

The hotel will be home to award-winning chef Akira Back’s first namesake restaurant in the UK, along with his A Bar Lounge concept, and a spa featuring an indoor 25-metre swimming pool, sauna, vitality pool, relaxation room and bespoke treatments.
